Ellis Tibere, of Guilford, was arrested after a manhunt following the incident that took place around 1:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 6, at 1137 Post Road East in Westport, said Westport Police Lt. Anthony Prezioso.
According to Prezioso, the victim, a 33-year-old woman, was sitting in her vehicle, when Tibere, wearing a masking and brandishing a knife, opened her car door and began stabbing her.
The victim attempted to kick Tibere in self-defense at which time he inflicted multiple stab wounds to her leg, Prezioso said.
Based on interviews conducted with Tibere, it appears the victim and location were chosen at random, he added. Guilford is located about 45 miles east of Westport and is also along I-95.
The victim sustained serious injuries as a result of this incident and was transported to Norwalk Hospital for further treatment.
Immediately after the attack, witnesses provided a description of Tibere as well as of his vehicle. Patrol units set a perimeter around the area in an attempt to locate the suspect, Prezioso said.
A Westport officer then observed his vehicle traveling southbound on the Sherwood Island Connector a short time after the initial report was received.
He came to an immediate stop when signaled and was compliant with officers at the scene.
When stopped, Tibere was found to be in possession of a knife and mask and has confessed to his involvement in the incident, Prezioso said.
Tibere has been charged with criminal attempt at murder, assault, and possession of a deadly weapon.
He was unable to make his $1 million bond, and is being held until a future court date.
The victim is reported to be in stable condition as of the last update from medical personnel.
There is no known relationship between the suspect and the victim in this incident, police sad.
